We absolutely love education initiatives. And more so when they are reminiscent of something from the childhood. PenPal Schools is one such.

An online learning community, PenPal Schools connects its students with a partner from around the world to discover and learn about other cultures, languages, people, issues and perspectives. Learners (usually between ages 9 and 22) from different backgrounds share experiences and learn from one another. Quite like writing to your pen pal when you were a kid, right?
PenPal Schools offer 6-week programmes, which are curriculum-guided exchanges. Students can pick the course they feel inclined to; practice a new language with a native-speaking PenPal, read and discuss stories happening where their PenPal lives, or simply practice reading and writing English while learning about life in their PenPal’s country.

The programmes offered by PenPal Schools run on pay-what-you-want basis, allowing those from low income areas to participate and learn for free. They have self-guided apps which make learning fun for students and easy for teachers.

We think PenPal Schools is a great way to develop global citizens, from a young age. If you are a teacher, we suggest (imagine us dragging you by the hand) you head over to their website and sign-up your class with them. Your kids will be thrilled at the thought of interacting with someone from another country for six whole weeks. And oh, the things they’ll learn.

If you are someone who supports children’s education, alternative learning ways, or simply, an idea that changes children’s lives for the better,

  1. What an awesome post, thanks so much Project Fuel! “Your kids will be thrilled at the thought of interacting with someone from another country for six whole weeks. And oh, the things they’ll learn…” we see so many examples of this every day! Speaking of self-guided apps, we JUST launched our brand new mobile apps, which are totally free for everyone and available on Android or Apple devices (woot!).
